Saying the Rosary Can Be Good for Your Waistline

Sandy, of Mary's Rosary Garden, sent this neat email to our group this morning, and I asked her if I could post it on our blog.  It might be another incentive to pray the rosary.  =)
Hello everyone,
Even though this isnt about rosaries in themselves it is about the devotion. Its spring and therefore once again Im looking to get back into shape after a long winter,
I live in Maine. I was watching a tv show that featured Dennis Austin. She said that when you hold your stomach in for 5 seconds, sitting or standing, it is equivalent to 1 sit up. So, I started to do them. Soon I got bored with counting to 5.
Prompted by our Lady, I started to say the first half of  the Hail Mary. Big breath and then the second half.  I have done this for a month and have lost 3 inches on my waist and tummy. Simply by saying the rosary everyday, my waistline is getting smaller. (Im a huge multi-tasker.)  Yes, I still think about the mysteries and our Lord when standing at the sink or folding laundry AND holding in my stomach.
Ladies...It works! Having had 7 children anything that I can do for myself and the Lord and saves me time is a great revelation to me. Just thought I would pass along my spring time journey.
Blessings to all, Sandy

That is very neat, Sandy. =) It reminds me of how the Jesus Prayer--Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner--is often referred to as The Silent Breath Prayer. It is the prayer that is used on Eastern Orthodox prayer beads. The idea is that the prayer becomes unceasing, as it is a prat of your every breath. I have experienced how it can be a wonderful way to stay focussed in prayer, but being able to take off some inches along the way would be an additional advantage. I have used the breathing technique when I say the rosary; now I will have to start paying attention to my ab muscles too. =)

What a wonderful idea. Anything that gets our whole selves involved in devotion is a good thing!

I'll have to give this a try as I hate, loathe, and despise excercise with a white-hot passion of a thousand suns! 8^)

Oooo...Sandy I am definitely going to try this! I have only had 4 kids, but still what a simple and manageable way to firm up that belly!

Emanda, you are a girl after my own heart. I always tell people I'm allegic to exercise. LOL I mean really...it makes you're face red, it makes you short of breath, it makes your muscles hurt. If that's not an allergic reaction, I don't know what is! LOL

Sandy, thanks so much for offering an exercise that sounds like something that I'm not "allergic" to. I'll definitely give it a try.
