One of our members, Carm of Unbreakable Rosaries, has had the blessing to visit Pietrelcina, Italy where St. Padre Pio was born and where he celebrated his first mass as a Franciscan Capuchin priest. Above are photos she took while she was there.
The first photo was taken in the Santa Maria degli Angeli (Our Lady of the Angels) in Pietrelcina. The other two photos were taken at the home where the young Francesco Forgione (who later became Padre Pio) grew up. What looks like a rock, was actually Francisco's pillow.
Padre Pio was canonized into sainthood by Pope John Paul II on June 16, 2002. To view a complete biography of his amazing life and love of God and prayer, click here to visit the Vatican website.
